Tree puja realigns us with positivity

A shrubby tree growing out of weathered rock faces on Ulurua

Far away from springtime in Hobart, this tree emerges from within the rocky folds of Uluru, a place of deep, timeless ritual in Central Australia.

The tree is sattvic. Each time one goes to a tree in puja, one aligns oneself with sattva, harmony. There is so much tamas* in this world, it is always destabilising us. The tree puja realigns us with the positivity of sattva.

Spring is coming, though it has just snowed. The tree is awakening.

*sattva and tamas are Sanskrit terms. Sattva means light, harmony, clarity. Tamas is the opposite - inertia, stagnation, darkness.
