Still as a Tree

19 June, 2010

Back from Sydney.

Delightful winter has fully settled in, the tree is happy to have dropped her load of worldly attachments and renounced even the clothes she wore. Naked she stands as the ice breeze passes merrily through.

I stood with eyes closed, still as a tree, while the wind moved across me, and across the tree and across all else, blowing my hair, blowing the leaves: all of us out there on this brisk winter’s morning were one in that experience, and we all laughed inside at the beauty of it.

While I was away, a wise woman said to me, “Trees have the stillness we need for sadhana.”

*sadhana means regular spiritual practice
